Year 5 & 6 Class

Primary School – Key stages 1 & 2

Pupils in Year 1 to 6 follow programmes of study in the core curriculum subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and Information & Communication Technology (ICT), together with the foundation subjects of International Studies (Geography, History and Religious Studies), Modern Foreign Languages (Arabic and French), Art & Design, Music and Physical Education. Some learning is delivered through topics, whilst other aspects are dealt with on a subject basis. In Key Stages 1 and 2, each child experiences both English and Mathematics on a daily basis.

Key Stage 2

The years that span Key Stage 2 build upon the knowledge and skills acquired in the National Curriculum subjects at Key Stage 1. Children continue to work in the core and foundation subjects. Throughout the year, children undertake regular standardised assessments, to test their learning, allowing teachers to analyse progress and develop appropriate individual class work. This again enables parents to be fully and regularly updated of each child's developments, formally through our termly parent meetings, and informally during regular open afternoon visits for parents.

Year 5/6

Year 5/6 is about preparing your child to become a confident, responsible innovative, engaged and reflective learner. As your child progresses in their primary education, they will be expected to draw on what they have learnt in previous years to move forward in Mathematics, English and Science. You can help your child prepare for Year 5/6 by knowing what they are likely to be taught.
